Job Descriptions and Application Instructions:

Gate Keeper:

The Gate Keeper works under the direct supervision of the Parks & Recreation Coordinator, Aquatics Director, Assistant Aquatics Director, and Head Life Guard. The Gate Keeper position duties involve general tasks within the City of Worcester Parks system. Assignments may include pool attendant, distribution of meals with the summer food program, assisting with summer special events within the City of Worcester and/or assigned to a site for the duration of the summer.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of routine cleaning, cleaning equipment, and of shower operation as required; knowledge of rules and regulations governing conduct of facility users; and excellent communication skills. The qualified candidate will have the ability to understand and follow verbal instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other personnel and the general public; ability to enforce facility rules and regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially; ability to record daily records; the ability to perform manual tasks requiring some physical exertion; the ability to work in a variety of weather conditions; and the ability to successfully pass CORI/SORI check.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous experience performing custodial work
  • Previous work experience with daily record keeping
  • Previous experience working with the general public
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Willingness to work in variety of weather conditions
  • Must be at least 16 years of age

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • American Red Cross First-Aid & CPR/AED Certification

STARTING SALARY: $12.75 per hour, seasonal, non-benefitted

Maintenance Worker:

The City of Worcester’s Department of Public Works, Parks Division seeks motivated individuals to maintain City parks. Seasonal Maintenance Workers perform routine maintenance operations including, but not limited to; green space maintenance, event operations, facility maintenance and other work as assigned. All work is performed outdoors, in all types of weather and in accordance with the City of Worcester standard park/ cemetery maintenance practices and procedures.

Qualified candidates will be able to interact with patrons and the general public in a proper and professional manner; work in varying weather conditions; work in accordance with City of Worcester standard park/cemetery maintenance practices & procedures; operate and use power equipment & hand tools, and the ability to lift 50 pounds and to a height of 48 inches. The position hours consist of twenty (20) hours per week, four (4) days a week.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and to a height of 48 inches
  • Must be at least 16 years of age

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • First Aid and CPR/AED Certified
  • Previous work experience in the field of parks and/or facility maintenance

SALARY RANGE: $12.75 hourly, seasonal, non-benefitted
