Free Culinary Arts Training Program

Gain the skills to begin your culinary arts career and join the food industry!

Class starts September 2025

Bay Path’s Culinary Art Instructors offer a comprehensive culinary arts curriculum designed in partnership with local industry employers. Participants will learn all aspects of the “back of the house.” The program will cover soups, stocks, and major mother sauces. The seven major cooking methods will be taught, including grill, sauté, poach, pan fry, braise, deep fry and bake. Proper knife skills as well as how to use all types of equipment found in most restaurants will be taught. Students will learn to break down, trim, and portion fish, chicken, and meats. Several dessert and pastry lessons, including proper preparation of doughnuts, pies, and cookies, as well as pasta, bread, and pizza making will be covered.

To complete the remaining course hours, each student will be placed in a local restaurant to execute the skills they learned with the potential for permanent placement upon completion.

    • Companies who support the program: Table 3 Restaurant Group, DCU Center, Masonic Health Care/ The Overlook, UMass

    • Licenses: OSHA, Serve Safe and Allergen Awareness certifications

    Job-readiness support, including resume-building and interview coaching, is also included to help students transition successfully into the workforce.

    • Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays
      • 4pm to 7:30pm
    • Participants are eligible to receive stipends based on completion of the program and gaining employment

    • Massachusetts Resident
    • Unemployed or underemployed
    • Legally able to work in the U.S.
    • Looking to work in the Culinary Arts field

    Application Process:

    1. Eligibility Review – We’ll review your application to confirm you meet the program’s requirements.

    2. TABE Test – If you’re eligible, you’ll be invited to schedule a Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). Please note: you must also be a registered member of MassHire JobQuest to move forward.

    3. Interview – If your TABE test scores meet the program criteria, you’ll be referred to Bay Path for an in-person interview.

    4. Final Decisions – All applicants will be notified of final decisions by the first week of September.
