Program Description
This free course is completely online, self-guided, and requires at least 41 training hours. On average, it takes self-paced learners 2.5 to 5 months to complete the program. Topics include:
- Construction & Solar Basics: Safety, framing, and solar energy fundamentals.
- Electrical Basics: Circuits, installations, and safety practices.
- Water Heating Systems: Gas water heaters and piping.
- HVAC Systems & Calculations: Airflow, heat pumps, and energy efficiency.
- Workplace Professionalism: Teamwork, communication, and customer service.
- Industry Certifications: Includes OSHA 10-Hour Construction.
Once complete you will receive a job-ready certificate and referrals to additional education, training, and employment opportunities.
Eligibility Requirements
To participate in the Clean Energy Academy free training, you must meet ONE of the following eligibility requirements. During the application process, a MassHire counselor will help determine your eligibility.
- Reside in an Environmental Justice neighborhood as defined by the state of Massachusetts.
- Currently or formerly employed as a fossil-fuel worker.
- WIOA-eligible based on work status, income, disability, or other factors.
- Member of a federally recognized and state acknowledged tribe.
You must also meet the technical specifications for the Academy and have sufficient access to hardware and internet connection.
